Deadline : January 27 2017

Institut français, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States, and FACE Foundation are joining forces to launch a new residency program: Etant donnés Residencies.

This program will support French visual artists seeking to spend 2 to 4 months in the United States, in order to develop specific research or projects in collaboration with an American organization. The residency will enable them to become immersed in the American art world and develop new contacts and networks. It aims to promote the integration of French artists into the American contemporary arts scene and generate collaborative projects that may continue beyond the residency.

Etant donnés Residencies is intended for French artists (or those living in France for more than 5 years) who have already initiated a collaboration with a partner organization in the United States that is willing to accompany their research, facilitate the development of their artistic project, and help them develop their network. They will also be assisted by the teams of Institut français-Paris and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy.

This new program, launched within Etant donnés, the French-American Fund for Contemporary Art, is a continuation of a residency program developed in 2014 and 2015 by the Institut Français. Etant donnés Residencies will build on this successful program and strengthen the partnership between the Institut français, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, the FACE Foundation, the Ministry of Culture and Communication, the Florence Gould Foundation, and the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation. The core aim is to support the development of French artists in the United States and foster exchange between the French and American contemporary art scenes.
